Cozy Fall Tips.

Now that we’ve officially entered the season of fall, there’s no better time than now to start embracing the cozy feelings that go hand in hand with autumn. A great place to start is to make a few minor adjustments within your home to surround yourself with all things cozy.

One way to prepare your home for the cozy months ahead is to incorporate different types of textures in fabrics and furnishings throughout your home. You can switch out throw pillow coverings each season, focusing on the thicker cottons, tweed and wool type of fabrics for the fall. Similarly, updating your curtains to a thicker and more neutral colored fabric will also add a sense of coziness. Draping throw blankets on arm chairs, ends of couches, benches and beds will give you the desire to cuddle up underneath the blankets and enjoy the crisp air anytime you pass one. The fabrics don’t have to necessarily match; mixing textures will only enhance the cozy feeling within your home.

An extremely easy and cost friendly way to create a cozy ambiance in your home is to update your lighting. A soft white light bulb will keep the lighting warm. Try adding lighting anywhere you can and keep in mind the ‘layered lighting’ method. Spotlights, floor lamps, pendants, table lamps, under cabinet lighting - all of which are different heights through the home which give you a layered lighting result. Candles are also a great way to add to the lighting. The soft glow is relaxing, warm and easy on your eyes.

I don’t know about you, but I associate smells with seasons and some scents bring a level of relaxation like no other. Simmer pots are a great, affordable way to create a scent that permeates throughout your whole home, lasts all day and is something you can throw together with items you may even have in your pantry. A known favorite is orange slices, apple slices, cloves, star anise, cinnamon sticks. Toss all of the ingredients into a pot of water on top of the stove and cover until it starts to boil. Bring down to a simmer, remove the lid and enjoy the comforting fall scent throughout your entire home.

Imagine sitting underneath one of your favorite throw blankets against your full and comfy pillows on the couch, while reading a book beneath a warm light and smelling a mix of citrus, apple and cinnamon. How much more “Fall” can you get?
